ST. PAUL, Minn. (KMSP) - The Minnesota Clean Energy & Jobs campaign took root today at the Minnesota State Capitol, a campaign that calls for renewable energy, energy efficiency and local power policies that create jobs and promote good health. Over 30 organizations came together to launch the campaign as a response to Gov. Dayton’s call to establish Minnesota’s sustainable energy future.

A BlueGreen Alliance press release said Pete Parris, political director for Sheet Metal Workers Local 10 and representative of the BlueGreen Alliance said a clean economy is the key to creating good jobs, and that actively protecting the environment now sets the foundation for a promising future for the state of Minnesota.

Key policies for 2013 and 2014 include increasing the state’s Renewable Electricity Standard to 40 percent by 2030, establishing a solar energy standard of 10 percent by 2030, and a series of policies that will make providing local power generation easier and more cost effective, as well as advancing building and industrial energy efficiency initiatives.

Wind energy is a major focus and job propellant in the state, the BlueGreen Alliance said, and that the Solar Energy Jobs Act has the potential to create over 2,000 permanent jobs in its first year alone. The release credits wind energy with providing up to 3,000 jobs in Minnesota, and the Act can create thousands of jobs over the course of its life.
